Job Description

The Medical technologist performs duties such as chemical, microscopic, serologic, hematological, immunohematologic, and bacteriologic tests to provide data for the health care provider for the purpose of diagnosing, treatment, monitoring and prevention of disease.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education:Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or Bachelor of Science in a chemical or biological science from a 4 year accredited college or university NOTE: Bachelors degree requirement may be waived by the department manager depending on amount and type of experience held Licensure/Credentials:Board registered with one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, NCA, NRCC, AAM, etc.) Acquires and maintains a Washington State Health Care Assistant License Category A Experience/Training:Minimum three years experience as a Medical Technologist in a rural hospital setting with on-call experience preferred. Previous experience with phlebotomy preferred. Previous experience with a laboratory computer system including word processing and Excel spreadsheet required. Language Skills:Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions and relate well with all customers (public, health care providers and hospital employees) in writing and verbally Must be able to follow directions, complete orders accurately and make judgments Ability to communicate effectively in English Mathematical Skills: (Understand and apply concepts to problem-solving situations)Ability to apply mathematical operations to such as tasks as validating precision and accuracy of methodologies. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms and quadratic equations. Reasoning Skills: Ability to interpret procedures, physician orders, and reference lab manuals and instrument manuals. Additional Skills: Knowledge of the principles, procedures, practices, safety precautions, terminology, and equipment used throughout the laboratory and their interrelationships to perform moderate and high complexity analysis in all sections of the laboratory. Demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple tasks with precision and flexibility to provide accurate results within the minimum turnaround time established by the laboratory. Ability to recognize problems, identifies cause, create alternatives and determine solutions.

Salary: $33.58-$47.00/hour DOE
