Job Description

The Medical Assistant Certified performs those duties requested by the health care provider that are designated in RCW 18.360, Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of Physician or Mid-Level Provider. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients charts.
  2. Hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed.
  3. Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  4. Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.
  5. Operates electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic test or calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
  6. Prepare patient for examinations.
  7. Gives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests.
  8. Collect previous lab reports, x-rays, chart notes and old records.
  9. Keep contents of patient files up to date and keys data for patient records.
  10. Perform venous and capillary invasive procedures for blood withdrawal.
  11. Perform intradermal (including skin tests), subcutaneous and intramuscular injections for diagnostic agents as designated in RCW 18.360.05

 The Medical Assistant Registered performs those duties requested by the health care provider that are designated in RCW 18.360, Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of Physician or Mid-Level Provider. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  5. Prepare patient for examinations.
  6. Performs routine waived laboratory tests.
  7. Collect previous lab reports, x-rays, chart notes and old records.
  8. Keep contents of patient files up to date and keys data for patient records.
  9. File patient charts.
  10. Administers vaccines, including combination or multidose vaccines as outlined in RCW 18.360.050

QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MA-C Certification: Must be eligible for Health Care Assistant Certification in State of Washington. Must obtain Medical Assistant Certification. Must obtain BLS within six months of employment.

MA-R Certification: Must hold and maintain Medical Assistant Registered certification in State of Washington. Must obtain Medical Assistant Certification or be enrolled in the Washington State Apprenticeship Program within 18 months of hire date. Must obtain BLS within six months of employment. MA-R that completes Apprenticeship program must sign a two-year commitment

Salary Range: MA-C: $23.49-37.54/hr MA-R: $21.30-34.03/hr DOE
